What Is Easy Anti-Cheat? Games, Errors & Support

Last updated: October 16, 2026

Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is an anti-cheat service that game developers integrate to help protect online play. It is part of Epic Online Services and is used by games including Fortnite and Rust. If you see an EAC installation prompt or launch error, the next step depends on the game and the exact message.

This guide explains what Easy Anti-Cheat does, how to find the right repair instructions, and why a launch failure is different from an account ban.

What Does Easy Anti-Cheat Do?

Epic describes EAC as a service for preventing exploits and detecting cheating. Its published overview describes several signals, including gameplay analysis and player reports. Developers integrate the service into their games, so players do not choose a universal EAC configuration that works identically across every title.

Read the official Easy Anti-Cheat overview for the provider's description. EAC is one part of a game's security system; its presence does not mean every game has the same rules, platform support or troubleshooting procedure.

Is Easy Anti-Cheat Kernel-Level?

Epic explicitly describes Fortnite's EAC protection as kernel-level protection that guards the game while it runs. Kernel-level access refers to privileges within the operating system, rather than a particular game setting.

See Epic's Fortnite anti-cheat explanation and our kernel-level anti-cheat guide for more context. Do not assume that the startup behavior of one anti-cheat product describes every other product.

Which Games Use Easy Anti-Cheat?

Two examples confirmed by current publisher support documentation are:

  • Fortnite: Epic's installation guide states that EAC is required to play and provides installation instructions for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Rust: Facepunch maintains dedicated EAC support articles, including help with authentication, service startup and client integrity errors.

This is a short set of verified examples, not a complete game list. Anti-cheat integrations can change. Use the Fortnite EAC installation guide or Rust EAC support section for game-specific instructions.

Common Easy Anti-Cheat Errors

The official EAC support directory lists separate help topics for a missing installation, unknown file versions, error 30005, encrypted installation folders and simultaneous game instances. These messages should not be treated as interchangeable.

Easy Anti-Cheat Is Not Installed

For Fortnite, Epic advises launching the game and accepting its EAC installation prompt. If the prompt does not appear, Epic provides a manual procedure using the game's EasyAntiCheat_EOS setup. Follow the current linked instructions for your Windows version rather than downloading an installer from an unrelated website.

Rust Client Integrity Violation

Facepunch says this error typically means local EAC files did not update correctly or became corrupted. Its client integrity repair guide describes replacing the affected EAC folder and verifying the game through Steam. Use that procedure for this specific Rust error; it is not a universal fix for every EAC message.

Other Launch or Service Errors

Record the complete error text, including any code and filename. Search the game's official support site for that exact message. A screenshot of the error and a list of steps already tried make a support request more useful than simply reporting that EAC does not work.

Does EAC Require TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot?

Check the game's published requirements and the server or mode you are entering. The EAC name alone does not establish one universal requirement.

Facepunch's Rust guidance describes a phased TPM and Secure Boot rollout: selected servers first, with a wider requirement planned and timing communicated through its developer updates. Consult the current Rust security guidance before assuming the requirement applies everywhere or nowhere.

Our TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot guide explains the terminology. Follow your motherboard manufacturer's instructions if a supported change is needed.

Does an EAC Error Mean You Are Banned?

An installation or client integrity error does not by itself establish that an account is banned. Read the actual message. EAC provides separate support paths for technical problems and ban appeals.

If the message explicitly reports a ban, use the official appeal guidance and the game's support channel. Reinstalling software is not an account appeal.

Before Contacting Support

  • Write down the game, launcher and complete error message.
  • Note whether the problem happens at startup or when joining a server.
  • Record your Windows version and recent game or system changes.
  • List the official troubleshooting steps you have already completed.
  • Submit requested logs privately through the official support channel.

Easy Anti-Cheat FAQ

Is Easy Anti-Cheat the same as Epic Online Services?

EAC is part of Epic Online Services. That does not make every Epic Online Services feature an anti-cheat feature.

Can I remove EAC and still play Fortnite?

Epic states that EAC is required to play Fortnite. Removing it does not resolve that requirement.

Should I use the same repair steps for Fortnite and Rust?

Use the instructions for the affected game and error. The publishers document different installation paths and repair procedures.

Where should I check other games' requirements?

Start with the publisher's current documentation. Our PC game anti-cheat compatibility database provides a broader overview and links to related Windows security topics.
